I want to become a UIAGM Mountain Guide

Obtaining the UIAGM Mountain Guide qualification is a challenging process and long way to go. But it’s worth all the blood, sweat and tears because it’s simply the best job in the world. An experienced climber and skier grows into a professional, able to take care of people anywhere in the world’s mountains. The candidate must have broad and long experience to start the training process. Must be able to demonstrate a high standard of rock climbing, have experience of big alpine tours, demonstrate very good skiing technique on any snow and have the ability to look after clients in any situation. Once accepted into the education process, supported by a series of rigorous training courses and tests in the disciplines of rock climbing, winter climbing, mountaineering, off-piste skiing, ski touring, avalanche safety, and coaching, the candidate will be qualified as a UIAGM IFMGA IVBV Mountain Guide.

You will receive a statement from the technical committee assessing your application.

If your application and the list of tours meet the requirements you will receive an invitation to the entrance examination according to the above mentioned scope.

5. Obtaining the mountain guide qualification

Your training for the UIAGM Mountain Guide qualification will run for a minimum of 3 years according to the above range.

Successful completion of education, final exam and aspirant practice is followed by qualification as a UIAGM mountain guide.

The list of mountain activities and the minimum scope and requirements of mountain activities are set out in decree 570/2007. The list of mountain activities completed by the applicant in the last three years is included in the application for the entrance test. The list of mountain activities must be submitted to the NAHVSR Technical Commitee at least 2 days before the entrance tests. The list of mountaineering activities should be a reflection of your mountaineering career to date. For this reason, it should show what you have done so far (not only in the last year) and also that you have been active in several mountain regions (not only in Slovakia). You should have done all the above mentioned climbs responsibly and in rotating leadership.
