General Assembly of the International Mountain Guides Organisation IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA
From 21 to 25. On November 2022, the Grand Hotel in Stary Smokovec will host the General Assembly of the international organization of mountain guides from all over the world IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA. This is the second time such an event has been held in Slovakia, the first time was in 1998 at Štrbské Pleso. A total of 59 participants from 25 countries around the world will attend the Assembly.
This year’s event is also a celebration held to mark the 30th anniversary of the anniversary of the founding of the National Association of Mountain Guides of the Slovak Republic and at the same time we will commemorate next year’s 150th anniversary of the National Association of Mountain Guides of the Slovak Republic. Anniversary of organized mountain guiding in our territory.
The General Assembly includes technical seminars, the adoption of conclusions and provisions for member countries and the election of a new President of the international organisation.
Accompanying programs will be the screening of a new film by Pavel Barabáš entitled Mountain Leader, the awarding of people who have contributed significantly to the development of mountain guiding, the graduation of new mountain guides, as well as a social program for members and invited guests.
As part of the accompanying programmes, there will also be an opening of an exhibition entitled In the footsteps of mountain guides in cooperation with the State Archive in Prešov, workplace of the Poprad archive in the premises in Spišská Sobota. The opening will take place on Tuesday 22. November 2022 under the patronage of the President of the IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA and the President of the National Association of Mountain Guides of the Slovak Republic. The exhibition will be open to the general public.
The next accompanying programme will take us to Žilina, where 34 competitors – mountain guides from 4 member countries will take part in the climbing competition on the climbing wall at the LA SKALA climbing centre.
The National Association of Mountain Guides of the Slovak Republic has a total of 65 members and has been a member of the international organization IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA since 1996.
